The scoop on Amy Maroney

What’s my story?

I grew up in Northern California and have lived in the Pacific Northwest for 25 years. I come from a family of bookworms, of writers and editors, of wanderers who love to travel and explore the natural world. As a kid, I checked out the maximum number of books from our local library each week. I scribbled stories and daydreamed, imagining a future as a fiction writer.

I went on to major in English literature in college and began a career as a writer and editor of nonfiction soon after graduating. At age 40, I had a stroke. The experience made me determined to write and publish fiction. Instead of querying agents and editors, I decided to try independent publishing.

Inspired by my travels and stints living in Europe beginning at age 12, I began researching and writing the first book of the Miramonde Series: The Girl from Oto. By 2019 I’d published two more books in the award-winning series: Mira’s Way and A Place in the World.

My subsequent series, the Sea and Stone Chronicles, is set in the medieval Mediterranean—specifically on and around the islands of Rhodes and Cyprus during the rule of the Knights Hospitaller. The books are inspired by real women of that time and place whose stories faded from the historical record or were never recognized at all.

I’m currently working on a dual-timeline art history mystery featuring Anne Boleyn.

And no, I never climbed Mt. Everest.
